LAND
PRIVATE CAR SERVICE
The preferred and recommended method of getting to and from NAP and FCO is by means of private car service.
Once your flights are booked, please email our wedding planner at info@theamalfiexperience.com with your flight details and they will help arrange a car service for you. You can also arrange a private car service to travel to and from different towns along the Amalfi Coast or pre-scheduled day excursions within Italy.
FYI: Taxis, Uber and Lyft are not as readily available in Italy as they are in America. Private transportation needs to be arranged ahead of time.
RENTAL CAR
Renting a car in Amalfi Coast is an option if you want to fully explore in and around the coastal cities. The popular Amalfi Coast route (SS 163 Amalfitana) follows the shoreline from Sorrento south to Salerno -- it is considered one of the best coastal drives in the world. You can rent a car from many well known companies at NAP or FCO.
FYI: The road along the Amalfi Coast is famous for its hairpin bends, zigzags and the narrowness in some parts. The road winds along the cliffs, was built at a very steep angle and has only occasional railings. Driving along the Amalfi Coast is not for the faint of heart and is only recommended for the skilled international driver.
FYI: There is no free parking on the Amalfi Coast, unless you are willing to park your car quite far from any village. If you plan on renting a car, we recommend planning ahead with your hotel or villa to arrange for parking.
PUBLIC TRANSPORATION (TRAIN/BUS)
Train -- Option 1 (applicable from NAP)
The Circumvesuviana train runs between Naples and Sorrento about every 30 minutes. To get to the Amalfi Coast, you will need to get off in Sorrento (the final stop) and then continue by Sita bus. It takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes by train from Naples to Sorrento. A ticket costs EUR 3.60. Circumvesuviana Schedule
FYI: You cannot purchase a train ticket for the Circumvesuviana train online, but only at the ticket window or one of the newspaper stands in the station. There is no combination train and bus ticket for the Amalfi Coast.
Train -- Option 2 (applicable from NAP)
The Campania Express is a special train that follows the Circumvesuviana line between Naples and Sorrento, stopping at just a few stations and taking about 30 minutes less to make the trip than regular trains. These special trains have guaranteed seating, air conditioning and space for luggage. It takes about 45 minutes to by train from Naples to Sorrento. A ticket costs EUR 8.00. Campania Express Schedule
FYI: You can purchase tickets online through the official EAV Campania website or at the Circumvesuviana ticket office 20 minutes before departure.
Bus
Buses operated by the Sita bus company run between all the towns on the Amalfi Coast. Although buses are frequent, the volume of traffic on the SS163 often means they do not run according to schedule. Bus Schedule
FYI: If you decide to travel by Sita bus, you will need to buy your tickets before boarding. Tickets can be purchased in the majority of bars and convenience stores on the Amalfi Coast and must be validated on the bus. Tickets cannot be purchased on board.
FYI: Buses stop running at 10:00 PM. If you want to get from one town to another in the evening and do not have your own vehicle, you will need to arrange for private car service or taxi.
MOTORCYCLE AND SCOOTER (VESPA)
You can rent Vespas in most of the towns on the Amalfi Coast and may be a pleasurable way to discover the area in complete freedom without having to worry about getting stuck in traffic or where to park.
FYI: We only recommend you use a motorcycle or Vespa to get around if you already have considerable experience or are confident about navigating the many hairpin bends.
